Introduction: Critical Thinking Piece

In our first identity discussion board assignment, we were asked to compare two essays, and than explain how the two essays related to us personally. I chose this particular piece because I felt that it showed how I could successfully and critically analyze the issues of identity in both essays, as well as synthesize my own experiences with the assigned readings. I feel that this was clearly shown first, in paragraph one, when I wrote this, “In each of the author’s stories, there was a clear sense of bewilderment associated with having no choice but adhere to the circumstances.” And in the second part of the essay when I wrote this about my childhood, “The dreams of becoming something great were real to me, but there were other forces going on that made it seem that my dreams would never come to fruition.  To use critical thinking, you must illicit intellectual and balanced judgment. To analyze you must examine something in great detail, and determine the nature and relationship of certain parts, in order to understand the meaning as a whole. This writing piece of mine reflects my ability to conceptialize the issues of identity that were present in our reading assignment.
